In 1995, Ps. Mariatu accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and made a commitment to serve the community and church in a bid to cause the transformation of lives. As far back as in 1998, she was a key member of a community Christian organization in The Gambia (West Africa) in which organisation she played a key role in the community and church development programs such as counselling, mentorship and evangelism. Additionally, she served as social secretary for women’s affairs in the community of Sierra Leoneans in The Gambia.

Upon her arrival to Australia in 2001, Ps. Mariatu Jalloh later became an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse by profession, however her passion for community development prompted her to resign and play an active role as a community leader. This passion later led her to start a community prayer group as a means of addressing myriad social, economic, and spiritual needs of a cross section of the community membership. Through the prayer group, she was able to cater not just to Sierra Leoneans but to the wider ethnic community in Queensland.

In 2009, The House of Prayer church was established under the leadership of her and her husband, Sheriff Jalloh. Sheriff and Mariatu as Senior Pastors are passionate about God, their family, and the ministry which God has given to them. Over the 5 years, their responsibility has included but not limited to preaching the word of God, providing counselling services to couples and singles of their congregation; mentoring and conducting deliverance for the helpless.

Pastors Sheriff and Mariatu are committed to ensuring The House of Prayer makes the message of Jesus Christ known and understood by all.
